THE
ECOLOGICALLY ACTIVATED FRAMEWORK:
You have the right mentality, you were just never shown a closed loop design system.
This is the step-by-step process I go through to help you realize what a circulatory design framework looks and feels like.
SITE ANALYSIS
Firstly, I'm looking at the language of the land. What elements, plants, infrastructure and soil types are present, and what that speaks to (past, present and future). This will give me a huge advantage moving forward, because no land is a blank canvas or without it's own history.
RESEARCH + INTERVIEW
This is where I'll be asking you questions, and/or anyone that has had a close relationship with the land in the past. While my site analyses are thorough, there is only so much information I can attain from observation or data collection on any given day. The longer the land, and the patterns influencing it, has been observed the better. We will discuss, in detail, your wishes, goals, setbacks and priorities: so I know exactly where you stand.
SITE/DESIGN PLAN
After we've identified (potential) problems, goals and priorities: I will present you with a proposed plan to move forward. Whether that is a design plan or strategy will depend on the context of the project, scope and/or issues. I could write a whole book on my design process alone. (And I am ;D).
IMPLEMENTATION
This is where the magic happens and our agreed project all comes together. It's a very exciting time!
POST SERVICE/ AFTERCARE TALK + STEPS
By this time, you will be feeling calm, clear and extra joyful after everything has fallen into place. I will walk you through steps moving forward and answer any questions you may have. If we agree to a maintenance plan for the project, then the next steps will look like the following:
MAINTENANCE
This can be a highly necessary part of our project, or not be needed at all. But it is frequently my favourite part of the whole process, because I get to enjoy the landscape breathe and unfold; and see our plantings grow.
TALK ABOUT PROGRESS
I will be checking up on progress and talking with you about how things have been going and the system(s) have been feeling. This is an important piece of the puzzle, and it also gives you a chance to access my professional opinions frequently after the project has ended.
RE-EVALUATE ANYTHING THAT MAY NEED TO BE CHANGED
While doing maintenance, if I notice any pattern that can be perfected, I will promptly point it out to you and handle it. If I am not the one to notice it, I will come in to alter or fix it free of charge (on a case-to-case basis).
